Coffee Transcendence

Sao Paulo - 2006

There was a time when I hated coffee! Like really hated it!

I was in Sao Paulo with my colleague, doing business meetings with our soon to be distribution partner. Sooo cool!

So our colleague took us to one of her clients. We met in his swanky office. He was cool too.

There came knock on the office door and a distinguished older gentleman entered. He had a white suit on. He also had coffee. Like strong, Brazilian espresso coffee.

Tiny little cups, tiny little spoons, a shiny silver container of raw sugar. The older gentleman took his job seriously and was exquisite at what he did. He was the coolest thing in the room I thought.

Maybe there is something more to this coffee thing than the horrible taste!

He poured.... and watched.... and stayed.... and watched.

I sipped... didn't gag... smiled as best I could... enthusiastically said 'Obrigado'... and sipped again. Not so bad, right here, right now!

I now have my very own coffee machine, tiny cups and spoons and quite often I think of that older gentleman when I sip an espresso.

Doing your job exquisitely transcends your job I think...
